DAY 2: The First Day of the Rest of Our Lives

THE GALLERY

It´s a beautiful day in the neighborhood. The sweet sun shines quite bright. So let´s make this a quicky...

The weekend was just pleasant as hell. HDP and I hit up la playa [the beach] days in a row. The fall weather leaves a little steamy but never too hot. Nos bañamos en el mar [We got to swim in the sea]. Here you have HDP himself in the Barceloneta, BCN´s playa numero uno (at least in sea and number of tourists):

To the left you can see the Marsel, the new W Hotel which has finished construction since my last life in Barcelona. Behind HDP is the feiry tower and to the right we had all the funny beach bars.

On the way to the beach you get swamped with a sense of utter desire to eat sea food. The promenade, if you can call it that, is decked in restaurants and bars catering sea food of admirable quality. Just the smell makes HDP happy. Look:

Jmmmmmm.... marisos....

While our regular day identities don´t allow for us to divulge grand, action filled lives we live by indulging in the Barceloneta high end fineries, pedalars or castañas y boniatos [chestnuts and sweet potato] reveal to us an even more luxurious treat. At the mouth of the promenade, we have made friends with a little women who sells these treats from her street grill, a practice that is replicated all over the city on various corners. Unlike cities like New York and Rome, however, these commodities come at a good price with little aim at tourists. The women (usually women) plant themselves in inconspicuous places such that one feels one has found a treasure when a few coins can be dropped for such sweet and hearty foods. And they´re veganooooooo.

So sweet potato, hot and gooey on a chilly fall evening

It seems my little blogging fingers get away with themselves. Going to cut you off from the gallery for now, leaving you with this wonderfully confusing puppet woman. I call her La Salchicherra [Sausage Queen]:

Had to run after her to get the photo

WORD OF THE DAY

My friend´s restaurant CO&CO has just started promoting cocktail hours on Fridays and Saturdays. She asked me for a promotional poster and gave me the clever wording for it. In
Spanish, the phrase tomar una copa signifies the act of going out with someone or someones and taking a drink(s). The word copa itself means cup usually full of something like a beverage. In Catalán, the native language of BCN, the word copas translates as copes. Thus the bartender at my friend´s place came up with the ingenious (I believe) ad: COpes&COpas. It was fun to illustrate:

MUSIC FOR YOUR EARS

The Family breaks through with its first BCN hit. Parental discretion advised for parents who aren´t fond of vulgarity:
